Week In The Life 2018

Last week, I participated in Week In the Life, started by Ali Edwards.  I have completed this project every year since 2013, and I love to look back at my albums at how much my "normal" has changed.

This year, I wanted to be an observer of my life.  Instead of telling "all of the stories" I wanted to concentrate on telling one story for each day.  I thought this would be appropriate since I have chosen to use a 3x8 album to document my week.

Here are my photos + words from last week.

MONDAY |  After getting my girls up and dressed and off to school, I have my second cup of coffee while I water all of plants in our home. I absolutely love black and white stripes, bonus points for a midi dress.

TUESDAY | Overcast this morning and I didn’t feel the best, but there’s very little I let get in the way of my morning run. I never regret going. I always regret when I don’t. 3 miles this morning, while I made a mental list of everything I need to accomplish today. Food for my soul.

WEDNESDAY | My youngest daughter has an extra hour of school on Wednesday’s. I spend the majority of my day in my studio - emails, working on new designs, layouts, photography projects and prints.

THURSDAY | Sometimes it is so hard for me to say yes. When she wants to stop at our local Arboretum and visit the koi pond and Japanese tea house, I thought about everything else I had to do today. I realized all those things would still be there tomorrow. I said yes, and I’m so glad that I did.

FRIDAY | Ending the school week with an evening at the beach. I cherish the simple joys, the experiences, and not “the things” in my life. And I’m so happy that my girls have each other. I always wanted a sister growing up. Instead, I am blessed to be a mother of 3 sisters. And if they still get along as adults, I will consider my job done

SATURDAY | Saturday was a blur of being on the road, running weekend errands. I did appreciate all of the love I received from my family today. I think every weekend should include Mother's Day.

SUNDAY | Starting Mother’s Day early this morning with paddle boarding while the sun rises. Looking forward to a relaxed day surrounded by my husband and daughters.

All photos taken with my iPhone and edited with VSCO.

I'm looking forward to bringing these photos and words together in a 3x8 album, which I will share soon!

Travels | Worcester, UK

 Worcester | Azzari Jarrett

Last month, my husband and I attended a family wedding in Worcester, UK.  Located in the West Midlands, Worcester is about a 4 hour drive from London and the home of Worcestershire sauce

Visiting the English countryside was definitely a treat for us, we love getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city.  Here are a few captures with my iPhone.

So much greenery and so quaint!

The lovely bed and breakfast were we stayed.  I captured this right as the sun was setting.

We will most definitely be back!  I have a few more photos from London, coming soon.

Travels | Pacific Northwest

Pacific Northwest Travels - Iphone | Azzari Jarrett

Last week, my husband and I set out on a quick trip to the Pacific Northwest. It was the first time for both of us, and I don't quite think that we were prepared for so much beauty.  I was expecting weather in the 50's and 60's with rain and light drizzle, but we lucked up with clear sunny skies and temperatures in the 70's. Gorgeous weather for exploring!

For this trip, I decided to bring only film cameras - my Nikon F100 and my Instax Mini, along with my iPhone for digital captures. If your struggling with what photography gear to pack on a trip, see this post.

As I wait for my film to be developed, I can't help but share these iPhone snaps from our trip.

Our first stop was Seattle.  And no trip to Seattle is complete without a visit to the Pike Place Market.

So many sights and sounds and colors.  So much goodness to capture.  The flowers were my favorite.  At $5 and $10 a bundle, their price is hard to beat.  It took every ounce of my willpower not to pick up a bouquet.

For dinner, a friend recommended La Rustica, an Italian restaurant in West Seattle with breathtaking views (see above).  Definitely worth visiting if you enjoy good food, wine, and getting away from the touristy spots.

The next day, we enjoyed a strong cup of coffee and breakfast at Odd Fellows Cafe + Bar. The windows were open and there was such a nice breeze.  I definitely enjoyed the vibe here.

Right next door to Odd Fellows is Totokaelo (above left photo) - a beautifully designed store full of art and textiles, as well as clothes and shoes.  I couldn't help myself and picked out a mug to add to my collection!

We also made a quick stop to the Melrose Market, home to an eclectic group of shops including Marigold and Mint (above right photo).

On our last day in Seattle, we enjoyed the cafe at The London Plane (above), which had the most beautiful flower shop. Definitely worth a visit!

On Saturday, we rented a car and drove to Tacoma, Washington to visit friends.  They took us on a tour of Tacoma, which we loved.  The above image was taken at Point Defiance Park.

Tacoma has so many parks with breathtaking views.  I don't think you can take a bad picture here if you tried.

We rounded out our trip with a visit to Portland.  And of course, an obligatory visit to the Ace Hotel Portland and the famous photo booth in the lobby.  I can't wait to document those photos!

A quick stop in Adler and Co to see the beautiful flowers of Hilary Horvath. And again, so hard to resist.

Pacific Northwest Travels - iPhone | Blue Star Donuts by Azzari Jarrett

On our last day, we picked up donuts and coffee at Blue Star Donuts and headed for the Oregon Coast.

After an easy one and half hour drive, we were greeted with this beautiful sight. The dramatic rock formations of Haystack Rock on  Cannon Beach were truly breathtaking.

Not until I posted this on Instagram did I realize that a few scenes from the Goonies (one of my all time favorite movies as a kid) was filmed here!

Needless to say, I can't wait to head back to the Pacific Northwest!

currently

Excited about a few new creative ventures I am working on.  I will share more soon.

Listening to the ever growing vocabulary of my one year old.  It amazes me how many words she learns from her older sisters.

Enjoying a little creativity everyday. Picking up my camera, watercolors, and documenting as of late.

Addicted to podcasts. Waiting on season 2 of Serial, but in the meantime I am enjoying Criminal, Strangers, Startup, StoryCorps, The Lively Show, and Elise Gets Crafty.  Any others I should be listening to?

Eating steel cut oats with sliced almonds and bananas. Always.

Finding that I am pinning more and more these days.

Preparing for my first 10K in a couple of weeks. Nothing beats the jolt of accomplishment first thing in the morning from a good run.

Wanting to share a heartfelt thanks for following my work in this new space. I'm loving it so far.

Jefferson Island

This past weekend, I flew home to Louisiana for a quick trip.  I love any time that I get to spend in home state.

I have heard of Rip Van Winkle Gardens on Jefferson Island for a while, but this was my first time getting a chance to visit.

Unfortunately, I arrived 10 minutes before they closed (at 5pm).  There was a kind lady at the front desk who let me through for those 10 minutes, even though I could tell she was ready to get home.

I knew it would be beautiful - but at the first site, I held my breathe.  The golden hour.  The perfect time to visit.

I snapped these images with my iPhone, no filter needed.  Next time, I'll be sure to go earlier so that I can take my time and really capture this island with a proper camera!

Louisiana, you sure are beautiful.

Today I'm excited to share that I have updated my shop with 3 sets of mini-prints!  These are a collection of my favorite Instagram images and capture the simple, everyday moments in my life.

They are perfect for your inspiration board, tucked in your journal, or taped on your wall.

Finally, if you are interested, I have only one remaining copy of On The Table, a collection of film images taken on my kitchen table.  I'm not sure when, or if, I will have any more printed.

Coffice

© Azzari Jarrett© Azzari Jarrett I think I heard the term "Coffice" for the very first time on instagram.  Someone had used it as a hashtag, and I immediately thought that it was a clever combination of words!  A coffee shop that one makes into an office. Yes.

I did just that on a recent trip to Louisiana.  I always make it a point to visit America's Coffee House.  It was good to chat with Floyd, the owner, and catch up on some work.  All of those canvas images on the walls?  His.  Yep, he's a photographer as well.

I immediately felt at home while there.

All images are iphone snaps.

a fall walk

Yesterday, I went for a lunch time walk.

I stopped and paused when I reached this bridge.  It was covered in fall leaves.  Undisturbed.  Beautiful.
