April Layouts with Kelly Purkey Shop

I’ve noticed over the years that my creative process ebbs and flows. Around this time every year, real life kicks in with 3 girls and my attention is diverted to end of the school year recitals, performances, and testing. This is the stage of my life right now, and I’ve learned to go with the flow.

Here are two layouts I completed with the most recent release from the Kelly Purkey Shop.

Kelly Purkey Shop | Project Life 12x12 Layout by Azzari Jarrett

I used the Home Town Project kit to document our trip to New York last August to see Hamilton for my oldest daughter’s birthday. Unfortunately, this kit is already sold out, but be sure to check back for a restock!

I’m still working on finishing my 2018 album, so this was perfect to get these photos printed and in my 12x12 album. And no worries, I am still documenting 2019 in 6x12 format, so you will definitely see more of those layouts as well.

The stamps included in this kit are perfect for not only documenting your love for your home town, but also a favorite trip or destination.

All of my girls are general homebodies. They love to be home, and I love that we have created a home where they feel safe and want to stay.

The colors in this kit are beautiful - love how the pages work so well together.

I used the sofa stamp included in the kit to stamp directly on a 3x4 journal card from the project kit and added it to my layout.

5 Surprising Things I Learned About Documenting While Traveling

On my trip to Paris, I decided to try something a little different. Instead of waiting until I returned home, I decided to bring along some essentials and document while traveling. Kind of the best of both worlds - memories documented without the stress of having to do it when I returned home.

Here are a few things that surprised me while documenting on the go…

5 Surprising Things I Learned About Documenting While Traveling | Azzari Jarrett

1. The airplane folding tray was just enough space to create.

I didn’t intend to use the airplane folding tray as a space to create, but I was so excited to get started. As it turns out, the airplane folding tray is the perfect size. I was able to write down my feelings and intentions about the trip. Be sure to pack your supplies in your carry on bag.

2. Limiting your supplies makes you more creative.

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but when I have my entire stash available, the decision making process about what to use can be daunting. By limiting my supplies, I actually used everything. Not once did I think, “I wish I brought ….” Instead, I made do with what I had.

Here’s what I packed: Midori Traveler’s Notebook, Midori Blank Traveler’s Refill, small palette of gouache, travel paintbrush, black ink pad, date stamp, stickers, Micron journaling pen, Scotch adhesive roller, binder clippers, my current favorite Kelly Purkey stamps, Fuji Instax Share printer (I have an older version), and my HP sprocket. I was able to fit everything in one bag, which was perfect for keeping my supplies together.

3. Collecting ephemera during the trip can be fun.

I really enjoyed picking up ephemera at every place we visited - visitor maps, business cards, receipts, ticket stubs. Usually these things are cumbersome for me collect on trips because I know I have to keep track of them in order to get them home. And they add up quickly! I found that I didn’t mind collecting ephemera because I knew I would be using them soon.

4. Finding a quiet space to journal is essential.

As soon as we got to our apartment, I made sure to find a space that I could spread out and create. It turned out to be this little desk near a window that was perfect for holding all my supplies. At the end of each day, I simply returned to this little area and documented our excursion for the day.

5. Anything is better than nothing.

I realized I could let go of any preconceived notions about perfection. Anything I documented that day would be better than nothing at all. I wasn’t concerned about things matching or how they looked together. I was simply able get my thoughts and pictures documented.

And if you are interested, here is a short video of my complete January traveler’s notebook.

January Layouts with Kelly Purkey Shop

Excited to share that I am on the 2019 Kelly Purkey Shop Creative Team! I absolutely love Kelly’s products, and I am looking forward to combining the beautiful stamps and paper with my images each month.

The January shop update is available today!

Here is a pocket page layout I created with the January kit called “Birthday Wishes”, perfect since January is also my birthday month.

My husband and I spent the week of my birthday is Paris this year. It was a magical trip, and I can’t wait to share more images soon! I chose a few of my favorite photos to pair with the journal cards, stickers, and stamps. I love the baby blue alphas in this kit, and how they pair so nicely with the pinks and corals.

I’m just a couple of weeks in, but the 6x12 format is working nicely for me. I am using this album, but in black, and Design H page protectors.

The Traveler’s Notebook this month is “Full Heart”. I used it to create this spread in my traveler’s notebook:

I also included “the future is bright” 3x8 pattern paper from the “This Year” mini kit, also in this month’s release.

My polaroids from this trip came out so dark and moody. Not the best, but combining film in my layouts will always be my love language.

And the stamps! Love how this “oui”, included in the True Love stamp set, was perfect for adding a little bit of French in my layout.

I used the Brooklyn Heights alpha stamp for “Paris”.

I’m looking forward to sharing my projects with Kelly Purkey Shop with you this year!

Week In The Life 2018

Last week, I participated in Week In the Life, started by Ali Edwards.  I have completed this project every year since 2013, and I love to look back at my albums at how much my "normal" has changed.

This year, I wanted to be an observer of my life.  Instead of telling "all of the stories" I wanted to concentrate on telling one story for each day.  I thought this would be appropriate since I have chosen to use a 3x8 album to document my week.

Here are my photos + words from last week.

Azzari Jarrett | Week In The Life

MONDAY |  After getting my girls up and dressed and off to school, I have my second cup of coffee while I water all of plants in our home. I absolutely love black and white stripes, bonus points for a midi dress.

TUESDAY | Overcast this morning and I didn’t feel the best, but there’s very little I let get in the way of my morning run. I never regret going. I always regret when I don’t. 3 miles this morning, while I made a mental list of everything I need to accomplish today. Food for my soul.

WEDNESDAY | My youngest daughter has an extra hour of school on Wednesday’s. I spend the majority of my day in my studio - emails, working on new designs, layouts, photography projects and prints.

Azzari Jarrett | Week In The Life

THURSDAY | Sometimes it is so hard for me to say yes. When she wants to stop at our local Arboretum and visit the koi pond and Japanese tea house, I thought about everything else I had to do today. I realized all those things would still be there tomorrow. I said yes, and I’m so glad that I did.

Azzari Jarrett | Week In The Life

FRIDAY | Ending the school week with an evening at the beach. I cherish the simple joys, the experiences, and not “the things” in my life. And I’m so happy that my girls have each other. I always wanted a sister growing up. Instead, I am blessed to be a mother of 3 sisters. And if they still get along as adults, I will consider my job done

Azzari Jarrett | Week In The Life

SATURDAY | Saturday was a blur of being on the road, running weekend errands. I did appreciate all of the love I received from my family today. I think every weekend should include Mother's Day.

Azzari Jarrett | Week In The Life

SUNDAY | Starting Mother’s Day early this morning with paddle boarding while the sun rises. Looking forward to a relaxed day surrounded by my husband and daughters.

All photos taken with my iPhone and edited with VSCO.

I'm looking forward to bringing these photos and words together in a 3x8 album, which I will share soon!

Project Life 2018 - March Layouts

I recently returned from a girls trip in Scottsdale, Arizona. We enjoyed a spa weekend, staying up late and catching up, and simply relaxing by the pool - which is always a treat! I couldn't wait to return home and document our adventures.

Project Life | 6x8 Layout | Azzari Jarrett

No hard and fast rules this year around documenting. I'm not keeping track of the weeks or dates, just simply documenting all things that I'd like to remember.  You can read a little more about my plans for this year here.

I'm using a 6x8 album, with various page protectors. One of my goals this year is to create most of journal cards, or use what I have in my stash. I created the "Scottsdale" illustration of our trip on the plane home using Procreate, my iPad Pro and Pencil - just doodling and loving it! And the "ok ladies now let's get in formation" is available as a digital download in my etsy shop, which I resized to 3x4 inches.

Project Life 2018 Plans + Free Printable Title Page Cards

Azzari Jarrett 2018 Project Life Title Page

2018 marks my 5th year documenting with Project Life. I can't believe that I have enjoyed this creative outlet for this long!

I'm changing a few things this year in order to keep the project fresh for me.  I am switching to a smaller format - a 6x8 inch album and I plan on using most of my own designs for journal cards. Don't get wrong, I will definitely use others from my stash, but this year, I want to stretch myself creatively.

Starting this year with a simple and minimal approach with these 2018 journal cards.  I initially designed them last year for my 2017 album title page, and I loved them so much that I've updated them to 2018 for this year's album.

I though that I would share, if you'd like to use them for your own album! You can find them here.

Please do let me know if you decide to include them in your documenting!

Here are my previous title pages: 2017, 2016, and 2015.

Looking forward to sharing more layouts (and designs) this year.

Up Story Theme

As most of you know, creativity ebbs and flows. There is a time for creating, a time for reflecting, a time for quiet and reflection, and there's also finding time to actually share what you have created.

Azzari Jarrett | Open Story Theme

I completed this layout almost a year ago. Took these photos of my layout almost a year ago. And it is only now that I am getting around to actually sharing it. Sometimes I have put work aside for a while and come back to it. And I'm totally fine with that.

Azzari Jarrett | Open Story Theme

That being said, I love working on story theme layouts using Ali Edwards's story kits. This story kit really spoke to me.

Azzari Jarrett | Open Story Theme

This time last year, I was still getting used to my new city and my new home. I wanted to document the ways that I could open up. And for me, that meant opening up to a slower pace of life, new people and experiences, making time for what's important, and opening up honestly to my girls.

I used peach card stock to match with the wall in my photo, and printed the word "Open" at the top.  Everything else is from Ali's "Up"kit.  I tried to link the kit, but unfortunately I think it's too old now!

Azzari Jarrett | Open Story Theme

I am using a We R Memory Keepers 8.5x11 Classic Leather Album to hold all of my story layouts.  I slipped the completed layout in a  8x5 x 11 inch page protector.
