Pieces Story Kit

Month after month, I am constantly inspired by Ali Edwards’ Story Kit subscription. Each kit is so thoughtfully curated for you to document your story.

Here’s what I created with last month’s Pieces Story kit:

Ali Edwards’ Pieces Story Kit Layout | Azzari Jarrett #craftthestory

I downloaded one of the bonus digital templates included with the subscription and resized it to 8.5 x 11 inches in Photoshop (this is the size of all my story kit layouts). I added my photos and journaling about 6 things, or pieces, that currently make up my life right now.

After printing, I added a few embellishments from the kit and stamped the date - everything coordinates perfectly!

As always, I love how much I am able to dig deep and tell different stories than I capture in my project life layouts with these kits.

Products used: Ali Edwards Pieces Story Kit Subscription, Heidi Swapp 8.5 x 11 dark floral album, Epson Semi-gloss photo paper.

You can see all of my story kit layouts here.

Life, Lately

Simple moments of my life captured on 35mm film from the last month or so. As always with film, these images feel so personal and intimate to me. I will always love how film captures my feelings and mood, in addition to what I see.

Viewfinders - Returning to Normal

Azzari Jarrett | Blur on Purpose

I captured this image in September 2018.

My family and I had just evacuated our home in preparation of Hurricane Florence. So many thoughts and feelings associated with this image. Will our community withstand the direct hit? Would we have even a home to return to?

I’m sharing more thoughts on this experience, Returning to Normal, over on Viewfinders today.

Life on Film

Last year, I started a project which I affectionately called 2018 on Film. My goal was to take one photograph a day to document the simple, quiet moments. Around May, as things go, life got in the way and I didn’t finish out the year. I did pick up my camera periodically, taking a photograph here and there, but I didn’t complete the roll until this month.

These film images span from May 2018 - January 2019. I lost a few images in the middle of roll because I opened the back of my camera prematurely. My favorites from the roll:

As film goes, I was surprised to get back these little treasures of my life, moments I completely forgot about. So glad that I did!

Needless to say, my film camera is loaded once again. No hard and fast rules, but it feels really good to see my life through film.

April 2018 on Film, Part 2

The second half of April 2018 images captured on 35mm film. I wrote a bit more about my personal photography project for this year here. You can also view the first half of my film images in this post.

April brings the awakening of flowers in our yard. Also in April, my husband and daughter built a small garden in our backyard. Trips to the beach are a must as the weather warms up, one out of focus image and other quiet moments around the house documented.

Once again, I used my Pentax K1000 and Kodak UltraMax 400 35mm film for capturing these images.

May film images currently underway. I will share them in June.

April 2018 on Film, Part 1

I have had these images developed for over two weeks now, and I am just now getting the chance to post them! May is proving to be quite a busy month with end of the year activities for my girls, and of course, Week In The Life, which I participated in last week.

Nevertheless, I am still committed to this personal project and excited to share my quiet moments of April 2018, photographed on 35mm film. You can read more about my photography project for this year here.

A few of my favorite people are captured this in the first half of this month - my parents and my youngest daughter. My parents were in town for a week at the beginning of April, visiting for Easter.  So happy that I captured the portrait of my mom.  You'll also see her famous gumbo, captures from a dinner party, walks around town, paintings, afternoon baths, and simple corners of my home.  I also love how you can tell the weather is getting warmer from these photos.

Once again, I used my Pentax K1000 and Kodak UltraMax 400 35mm film for these images.

Second half of April on film coming soon.

March 2018 on Film, Part 1

Quiet moments of March 2018, photographed on 35mm film. I wrote a bit more about my personal photography project for this year here.

I love how this project is keeping a camera in my hand. Sometimes I forget how much I love photography. Sometimes it feels like a hassle to carry my film camera wherever I go.  But getting my images back just makes my heart melt. And for that, I am grateful.

The beginning of March found me in Scottsdale, Arizona on a girls' trip. It was extremely hard to take only one photo a day during that trip! Also, Spring has begun to pop up in my images. I love how that is reflected in and around my home.

This month, I used my Pentax K1000 and Kodak UltraMax 400 35mm film for these images.

The second half of March, soon.

Weekend Thoughts

Azzari Jarrett Photography

Although I love Instagram, I have been so frustrated with using the app these past few weeks. The new algorithm and ads make it a place that I no longer want to spend more than a few minutes on. I feel like it has changed. I'm not sure I like the changes. I want to get back to the times that I can scroll through my feed and be inspired by the people I follow, not just those accounts that I "interact" with.  If I clicked "follow", there is a reason for that.

What I can control is this space. I know that it is not going anywhere and I can share here without expectation or likes or follows. Everyone is not screaming at me for attention, which is what I feel when I am on instagram.  On my blog, I can simply share my thoughts and creative endeavors, which I definitely want to do more of in this space.

This past weekend proved to be a relaxing one for me as it is the start of our spring break. I enjoyed some time in my studio, painting and exploring in my sketchbook.

I'm exploring with a number of different mediums to see what feels the best for me and my style. I really like watercolor, and gouache has been a recent favorite. Right now, I'm exploring with gouache and ink.  I really like this combination.

It was overcast, and we passed by a local street fair. My girls aren't particular fans, but I couldn't help but capture a few images.

And Sunday morning.

How I love Sunday mornings. As I was reading the Sunday paper and drinking coffee, I saw this easy recipe for a dutch baby.  It was so simple, and I had all of the ingredients at home, so I decided to try it.  I think I'll add more sugar next time, but it was hit in my house!

With three girls and activities, these types of weekends are rare and I treasure them. Here's to more relaxing days ahead.
