Travels | Napa Valley

Travels | Napa Valley on 35mm film by Azzari Jarrett

It’s no secret that my husband and I love visiting Napa Valley. I’ve posted previous photos here, here, and here.

We were able to make a quick weekend trip at the beginning of March. We have such good memories there. It’s truly the only vacation where I actually feel rested when I return home.

This time of year is mustard season and Napa Valley is filled with a beautiful blanket of yellow. Here are 35mm film photos I captured with my Pentax K1000 and Kodak Portra 400 film. These were mostly taken at Frog’s Leap in Rutherford, Napa Valley, California.

Travels | Paris, France

Azzari Jarrett | Paris Photography

To celebrate my 40th birthday this year, my husband and I spent a week in Paris, France. It was a first for both of us, and we truly enjoyed exploring and simply taking in all of sights and sounds of this beautiful city.

Here are my favorites from our week.

Visiting in the middle of January meant that the weather was cold, but the lines where few. We were able to walk up to most museums and sites with no trouble at all.

Claude Monet’s Water Lilies were absolutely beautiful to see in person. I made sure to get a close up since I would love to use this in a layout.

We stayed in a small, cozy apartment in the Latin Quarter that was perfect for us. There were huge windows that allowed the light to stream in every morning. I looked forward to returning each evening.

I feel like I only captured a fraction of the beauty of Paris, but these images definitely convey the restful and enjoyable week we had. We didn’t try to pack too much into each day, choosing instead to make one excursion everyday and preparing most of our meals at home. Exactly how I wanted to spend my birthday!

I am definitely looking forward to my return.

Travels | île d'Orléans

Today I'd like to share the last of my film photos from our trip to Québec City, Québec.

You can see my previous images here: Travels | Québec City, Part 1 and Travels | Québec City, Part 2

île d'Orléans is a small, quaint island located in the Saint Lawrence River, about three miles east of downtown Québec. We rented a scooter to explored the island for an entire day on our own.

Vignoble Ste-Pétronille - beautiful views and winery.

We continued on to Chocolaterie de Île d’Orléans - the absolute best chocolate I have ever tasted.

We absolutely enjoyed our anniversary trip.

The people of Québec City were so nice, and the city itself, so quaint. I cannot wait to go back!

We stayed at the Auberge Saint-Antoine and I highly recommend it.  Located in the Vieux Port of Québec City, it was so convenient to walk everywhere. Such a quaint hotel, and one of my favorite parts of our visit was simply enjoying the room.

Azzari Jarrett | Film | Quebec City

We had our own expresso maker in the room, and we spent early afternoons with the windows wide open enjoying a daily cup of expresso.  I enjoyed it so much that when we returned, I promptly ordered my own expresso machine.

Travels | Québec City, Part 1

Hello Quebec City

To celebrate our wedding anniversary this year, my husband and I decided to celebrate in Québec City, Québec.  This was our very first time to Québec, and we had an excellent trip. Québec City sits on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada's mostly French-speaking Québec province. Almost everyone speaks French, but were happy to switch over English for us!

Azzari Jarrett | Old Quebec City

I packed only my Pentax K1000 for this trip. Mostly because I miss shooting with it. And it did not disappoint.

I absolutely loved the charm of Old Quebec. It actually felt like we were in Europe.  Very easy to walk around and we loved the sites and sounds of Old Quebec.

More photos, soon.

Travels | Worcester, UK

Worcester | Azzari Jarrett

Last month, my husband and I attended a family wedding in Worcester, UK.  Located in the West Midlands, Worcester is about a 4 hour drive from London and the home of Worcestershire sauce

Visiting the English countryside was definitely a treat for us, we love getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city.  Here are a few captures with my iPhone.

We will most definitely be back!  I have a few more photos from London, coming soon.

Hello Asheville

Asheville, North Carolina | Hasselblad 500cm | Azzari Jarrett

We spent a couple of days in Asheville, North Carolina for New Years.  My husband and I really love Asheville and our girls particularly love visiting the Biltmore Estate.

It was cold and overcast during our visit, which is actually my favorite for taking pictures.  I only brought my hasselblad for this trip, and I was stopped more than once by people asking about it.

As you can imagine - taking the time to compose the photo, looking down into the viewfinder to manually focus, clicking the loud shutter, winding the crank, and finally pulling out film from the polaroid back, definitely takes me a considerable amount of time and brings a few stares by the strangers standing around me.  I'm pretty comfortable with this process and I've gotten over this.  Over the years I've learned that people are more or less just curious about why I am shooting with a camera that is older than me versus a digital camera, which is always a conversation starter!

You can actually see my behind-the-scenes process for shooting with my hasselblad and polaroid back in this video.

And in keeping with a little behind-the-scenes to show my process - below is the actual image on Fuji FP 100c instant film

Hasselblad 500cm | Fuji FP 100c Film | Azzari Jarrett

I simply scan the photo and crop it before posting.

I definitely didn't get all the photos I wanted for this trip, but it's always a give and take between being present in the moment and documenting the moment.  And I am happy I did a bit of both!

You can see more of my film images here.
